About me
I live near Edinburgh in Scotland and work as a professional genealogist and run Our Scots Genealogy Research. I love my work and consider myself very fortunate to have a job which is so interesting and varied. Most of my work is carried out at New Register House (home of Births/Deaths/Marriages, Old Parish Registers, Census Returns and more) and National Archives of Scotland – thankfully they are next door to each other! I also regularly visit National Libraries of Scotland and the Scottish Genealogy Society. I make occasional trips to other repositories such as the A K Bell Library in Perth and St Andrews University, and I love to wander through cemeteries whenever the opportunity arises! I have a simplified version of my website at Scottish Genealogist for those of you who just want the basic facts about what I do.
I also blog about my own old family photos and stories at Images Past – it’s nice to be able to take off my professional hat and have a bit of fun with family history, and there’s a great community of Genealogy Bloggers out there in cyberspace
